In April of 2009, Rebuilding Together Mohawk Valley made several renovations to the home of a single mother living in Utica, N.Y. The project was made possible by several local businesses including Jay-K Lumber, and was sponsored by Booz Allen Hamilton.

More than 30 volunteers lent their services to the remodel, which included the installation of molding around the floor, painting of the kitchen, and the installation of new cabinetry, countertops, plumbing, and kitchen faucet. Other modifications in the kitchen were the installation of a kitchen light, fire detector, extinguisher, and a new overhead vent for the stove.

Additionally, the crew replaced the homeowner’s dining room ceiling and installed a light fixture, light switch and fire detector. They also painted the entire room. A light fixture was installed in the home entryway and fire detectors were installed in all bedrooms.’
